For most people, the center cube on the top looks brown, and on the side facing looks orange-ish, right? Wrong, they are the same color. #1 Brown (#804A0C, RGB: 128,74,12)
I keep this picture around to show people different optical illusions. In this case, it’s a matter of our optic nerves perceiving the surrounding colors and interpolating. This works best if you have a cutout that you can put over the picture, but I’ve made a copy of the picture with the surrounding cubes just snipped out, so you can see it. If you download the picture and do a sample, you can see the colors are identical.
